  • President Biden’s Asylum Executive Order is Unacceptable

Signed June 3, the president’s order temporarily suspends the processing of most asylum claims at the southern U.S. border when the 7 day average of unauthorized crossings exceeds 2,500 people. This policy’s singular objective of closing the U.S. border to people seeking asylum from violence and oppression is in direct opposition of  advocates for communities impacted by the order. It is fully legal for refugees to seek asylum once they enter America, yet the Biden administration’s executive order appears to disregard  that fact.
