CE: 1 Social Work Contact Hour

Presenter:  Dottie Saxon Greene, PhD., MSW, LCSW, LCAS, CCS

After briefly reviewing the rationale for social worker self-care (burnout, secondary trauma, compassion fatigue), the facilitator moves beyond this common knowledge to an exploration of self-care through the lens of the Wounded Healer. Because the study of burnout has often been said to have “burned out,” the facilitator focuses on self-care through the eyes of the Wounded Healer and examines how the experience of woundedness supports resiliency and post-traumatic growth.

Objectives:

  • Define and describe self-care relative to social work
  • Examine the Wounded Healer framework as it relates to social workers
  • Explore the relationship between resiliency, post-traumatic growth, and the wounded healer
