The webinar will cover the challenges of motivating young eligible voters to participate in the voting process for local, state, and federal elections. Rock the Vote is a national voter participation  organization that have extensive expertise in engaging eligible voters  to both register and to vote in key elections. Historically, young people-especially those of color tend to vote at a lower percentage than their older counterpoints. The webinar will provide guidance and I information about current barriers that that impede and limit voter participation of this population.

Learning objectives:

  • The presenters will become more informed about the history of major barriers that exist for young potential voters to participate in the voting process.
  • Webinar participants will gain specific knowledge about mobilizing low-voting populations to register to vote, and to actually vote on election day.
  • Participants will gain insight about engaging youthful voters to help them appreciate the importance of voting;
  • Participants will learn about the degree to which increases of voter participation of younger voters will determine the outcome of the 2018 mid-term  elections, and the presidential election in 2020. Webinar attendees will learn about ways in which individual voter participation advocates and organizations can mobilize to limit barriers to voter registration and actual voting.
